Slovak Prime Minister Fico stopped communication with four domestic media

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico cut off communication with four leading media today after accusing them of not reporting truthfully.

Fico became prime minister for a fourth term last month, leading a leftist-nationalist coalition after an election in which he attacked liberal politicians, Slovakia's Western allies and the media for criticizing him and his SMER party.

He resigned five years ago due to large street protests over the murder of journalist Jan Kuciak, who was investigating political corruption.

Fico said today that the newspaper and online news portals Dennik N, Aktuality.sk - in which Kuciak worked - as well as SME and TV Markiza, "did not fulfill the obligation" for true, complete and timely information since the formation of his new government.

"Until the mentioned media begin to fulfill their legal obligations, Prime Minister Fico is terminating all communication with them," the announcement from the government cabinet states.
