The Skopje Aqueduct and the "Freedom Monument" in Kočani are being restored with an American grant
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Zoran Ljutkov, and the Ambassador of the United States of America, Angela Ageler, today visited the renovated "Monument of Freedom" in Kočani and the Skopje "Aqueduct", a cultural monument of particular importance and a significant landmark of the city of Skopje.
This officially marked the finalization of one and the start of another project with funds provided by the US Ambassadorial Heritage Fund.
Minister Ljutkov, during his visit to the "Aqueduct", expressed his gratitude to the US Embassy for its support in the area of cultural heritage preservation, adding that since 2001, the US Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Heritage, for the preservation, conservation and restoration of our cultural heritage has been awarded about 2 million dollars. He also expressed confidence that with joint cooperation and partnership with the US Embassy, the shine of this significant cultural heritage will be restored.
Ambassador Ageler, on the other hand, fascinated by the grandeur and beauty of the "Aqueduct", said that it is particularly important that it be put to the function of tourism.
Earlier, Ljutkov and Ageler visited the renovated "Freedom Monument" in Kočani, a project that was also implemented through the Ambassador's Fund for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, for which a grant of 254 thousand dollars was provided.
"The conservation and restoration of the "Monument of Freedom" - an artistic and architectural work by the authors Gligor Chemerski and Radovan Rajenovic, is the result of the joint efforts of our country and our great strategic, political, economic and cultural supporters - the United States of America. Thanks to their support, through the grant from the US Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Protection, we continue our commitment to ensuring the longevity of this truly representative monument of our country's recent history," said Minister Lyutkov from Kochani.
Ambassador Ageler, on the other hand, underlined that it is a pleasure to provide support for the restoration of monuments that are part of the country's cultural heritage.
The holder of the grant is the Municipality of Kočani, and the expert supervision was carried out by the competent institution, Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments and Museum - Shtip.
With the realization of the projects, the cultural heritage will be placed in the function of tourism.
