For 40 years, the citizens of Skopje have been talking about a transport solution like the BRT system, says Shilegov
The public transport system of Skopje is a system that has always needed to be subsidized from various sources and the City has never been able to finance it alone, so it was important for us that the BRT public transport system be self-sustaining, said the current mayor of Skopje and candidate of SDSM Petre Shilegov, in tonight's guest appearance on Telma TV.
According to him, with this transport system, the city will no longer depend on government block grants, as City calculations show the system will be self-sustaining.
- The fleet in the BRT system is semi-electric and half hybrid gas, and at the moment those buses that are only electric are expensive. We have not had an organized transport system in Skopje so far and it is important for us to offer an efficient system to the citizens, said Shilegov.
He added that "what has been talked about among the people of Skopje for 40 years, this administration is doing", and that they confirmed that the establishment of the BRT system will not cut the greenery on the boulevards. The credit line itself provides 280 thousand euros for dislocation and reproduction of greenery, said Shilegov.
- The greenest project for urban transport, according to the EBRD, is the project of the City of Skopje, he added.
