We all want the conflict in Ukraine to end, says Lavrov
Russia wants the conflict in Ukraine to end, but it will respond to the sending of Western weapons to Kyiv, the head of Russian diplomacy, Sergey Lavrov, said today.
According to Lavrov, Russian forces will respond to the sending of Western long-range weapons to Ukraine by pushing Ukrainian forces away from their borders.
In this way, Russia plans to create a "safe buffer zone".
In an interview with Russian state television, Lavrov said that "everyone would like the conflict in Ukraine to end, but the West's support for Kyiv plays an important role in how Russia will position itself."
Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24 last year, and the West responded at the beginning of the war by sending weapons and money so that it could defend itself.
