All attempts to assassinate Aleksandar Vucic: A lot of propaganda, and not a single accused

The number of attempts to liquidate Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has long been in the double digits. Representatives of the government, as well as Vucic himself, never confirmed their claims with evidence, let alone a lawsuit, and eight years have already passed since the first attempt to assassinate Vucic in Jajinci, H1 reports.

The latest alleged attempt to assassinate Vucic was revealed by Vucic himself on Friday after he said that "tycoon and criminal Dragan Šolak" came up with the idea to kill the Serbian president through his people.

With a trembling voice, with dramatic pauses, the "concerned" president said in front of even more "concerned" members of the Serbian Progressive Party that "they can kill him, but they can never defeat Serbia." And it would have been one of the usual "assassination attempts" on the president of the country, if Vucic had not declared the very next day that he did not say what everyone heard.

"I never said he wanted to kill me." I never said he would do such a thing. There are many people who want such a thing from the criminal milieu," answered the President of the Republic on Saturday when asked by a journalist from H1 about his, to say the least, frivolous statement.

And who are those people who are trying to kill Aleksandar Vucic and how many assassination attempts have there been on him in the last ten years? In truth, several dozen people who threatened Vucic via social networks ended up behind bars, but neither he nor his media machinery can call it an assassination attempt.

For the assassination attempt on Aleksandar Vucic, as is known, no one has been charged so far.

Something closest to that happened in October 2016, when a car full of weapons and ammunition was found in Jajinci, not far from the home where the president's parents, Angelina and Andjelko Vucic, live. Admittedly, that case did not receive a judicial epilogue either, because the prosecutor's office judged that there were no elements to initiate criminal proceedings. But then it was already obvious that "assassinations" were a favorite topic of the then prime minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, especially when he found himself in a difficult situation, due to internal or foreign policy.

Stefanovic: We connected some people with some places...

The whole story surrounding the weapons found in Jajinci seemed strange and confusing, and the confusion was compounded by the then Minister of Internal Affairs, Nebojsa Stefanović, with a "legendary" statement.

"We connected some people to some places, some people to some objects, we connected some people to other people who were involved in such acts. But if I tell you who, what, when and how, we would warn them about what we know about them," said Stefanovic.

The brave Vucic without body armor at the opening of the monument to Stefan Nemanja in Belgrade

During the opening of the monument to Stefan Nemanja on Savka Square in Belgrade in October 2021, two performances were held. One was the ceremonial unveiling of the monument, the other was the assassination of Vucic. Then, then Prime Minister Ana Brnabic revealed to the public that another assassination attempt was being prepared. Her words were confirmed by the then Minister of Police, Aleksandar Vulin.

"It was long and detailed planning. "Parallel structures were formed in the Ministry of Internal Affairs and campaigns were conducted in the tycoon media, which were broadcast by the media in the region, with the aim of dehumanizing Vucic and turning him and his family into a criminal clan," Brnabic told TV Pink.

The former prime minister said that the competent services are "working" on this case, and although many advised him not to go to the opening of the monument, the president went anyway. As he modestly told the pro-regime media: "I wasn't even wearing a bulletproof vest." No one was ever arrested for this entire story.

The assassinations of Aleksandar Vucic were rarely associated with a first and last name, but the then Minister of Police, Aleksandar Vulin, did in April 2022, when he said that "while Radoje Zvičer is at large, there is a danger of an assassination of Vucic".

Radoje Zvicer is the leader of the kavak clan who has been on the run for years, and it is interesting that the branch of that clan in Serbia, Veljko Belivuk and Marko Miljkovic, had direct help from individuals from the state apparatus until their arrest.

Vucic: If they kill me...

The story of the assassinations took a completely bizarre turn in June 2023, when Aleksandar Vucic included his family, his brother, and even his children in the story.

"If they kill me, my brother Andrej will stay behind me." If they kill my brother, my son Danilo will stay. If they kill my son, my daughter Milica will stay. If they kill my daughter, my son Vukan will remain... And our graves will fight against the Ustashas," Aleksandar Vucic told his colleagues at the time, and everything was recorded.

Marko Miljkovic for Jajinci

But many years later, the story of the first assassination of Vucic was actualized elsewhere, in the Special Court in Ustanicka, at the trial of the criminal group Veljko Belivuk and Marko Miljkovic, who are charged with multiple murders, drug trafficking, possession of weapons and more several crimes. The second defendant, Marko Miljkovic, spoke about that case.

"Let me introduce you to the action, it is an action where Aleksandar Stankovic known as "Mutavi", now deceased, Aleksandar Vidojevic known as "Roshavi" and Nenad Vuckovic known as "Vuchko", together with Aleksandar Vulin, on his order, loaded cars loaded with weapons and placed near Aleksandar Vucic's house in Jajinci. "In this way, they wanted to show the media that Vucic was a target and to this day no one is responsible for that car full of weapons," said Miljkovic.

Murders of political opponents in Serbia

Serbia is a country known for political murders. In 2003, then Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic was assassinated. In 2000, the then opposition leader Ivan Stambolic and four members of the then opposition movement for the reconstruction of Serbia were killed on Ibarska magistra, and on Easter 1999, Slavko Quruvija, journalist and owner of "Dnevni Telegraf" and "Europljanin". At the time of their death, all the victims were on the opposite side of the political arena from the current President of the Republic. It is distasteful to make a circus out of political murders for the sake of politics and to score cheap points out of respect for the victims.
