The main person responsible for this unprecedented attempt at institutional and anti-democratic sabotage is Mr. Mitsotakis himself and he must resign, say the political secretariat of the Greek opposition party SYRIZA in relation to the wiretapping case in Greece, the MIA correspondent from Athens reported.

The statement commented that the resignations of the director of the National Intelligence Service of Greece (EIP) Panayotis Condoleon and the Secretary General of the Greek Government Grigoris Dimitriadis, "cannot and will not cover up what all Greeks understood, that the main responsible is Mitsotakis himself." .

They point out that Mitsotakis is the one who transferred the competence of the EIP to be under the Prime Minister, "Missotakis is the founder and head of a regime that works against transparency, accountability, against the democratic state itself", but also that the Greek "Watergate" has Mitsotakis' signature.

- In any democratic European country, such a dark case of surveillance, which concerns at least one leader of a political party and one journalist, would have been unimaginable and would have already led to the resignation of the government, SYRIZA announced and added that in Greece the Government she did everything she could "to cover up the scandal with the illegal monitoring".

In addition, they emphasize that "the key question for every citizen at this moment is which other politicians and journalists are being followed by the Mitsotakis regime?" and point out that the immediate intervention of a prosecutor is necessary for the operation of the intelligence service.

According to the media in Greece, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to issue a statement and position on the wiretapping case on Monday.

Yesterday, after the resignations of the director of the National Intelligence Service of Greece (EIP) and the Secretary General of the Greek Government, Grigoris Dimitriadis, the case of the wiretapping of the leader of PASOK - Movement for Change (KINAL) and MEP Nikos Androulakis and journalist Thanasis Koukakis are in the focus of the Greek public.

The director of the intelligence service, Condoleon, as announced by Mitsotakis' office, resigned due to "wrong actions in the process of legal surveillance".

Androulakis demanded the immediate establishment of an investigative commission in the Greek Parliament to investigate political responsibilities in the case and said he was wiretapped by the EIP during the PASOK-KINAL leadership election.

The spokesperson of the Greek Government, Yannis Economou, said that if "all the necessary procedures of confidentiality are observed and if such a request is submitted, the Government will respond positively", regarding the possible establishment of an investigative commission in the Greek Parliament.

He also revealed that "as soon as the Prime Minister found out about the case of legal surveillance of Androulakis, after the approval of the prosecutor's office, the Government, through State Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, asked to fully inform Androulakis, who chose not to answer."
