A strong earthquake registered near East Timor

An earthquake measuring 6,1 on the Richter scale struck off the coast of East Timor today.

The quake's epicenter was at a depth of 51,4 km east of Timor Island, which is divided between East Timor and Indonesia.

A tsunami alert was issued after the quake.

East Timor is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where earthquakes are common.
