A severe heat wave has hit Japan

In the midst of a wave of unusually high temperatures and increased air humidity in Japan, the country's authorities today warned citizens of the risk of heat stroke in Tokyo and in areas in the east and west of the country.

The heat wave in Japan has already caused several deaths, which is why many Japanese have decided to use the new so-called cooling shelters' that have opened in Tokyo.

Authorities urged citizens to avoid physical activity, and the Ministry of the Environment issued the highest level of warning.
