The Swedish MFA sent a note of protest to the Russian ambassador for "interfering with the country's attempts to join NATO"
The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will invite the Russian ambassador for an interview and express its displeasure over "attempts to interfere" in the process of Sweden's accession to NATO, reports "Reuters".
Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO in 2022 in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and hope to complete their accession process this year.
The Russian ambassador said in a statement on the embassy's website that by joining NATO, the Nordic countries become a legitimate target of Russian retaliatory measures, including measures of a military nature.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will summon the Russian ambassador and hand him a protest note because of the apparent attempt to interfere (in the NATO accession process), the head of diplomacy, Tobias Billstorm, told the TT news agency.
