Hundreds of employees of the Coca-Cola soda company in the northwestern German cities of Dortmund and Lüneburg went on strike today demanding a 400-euro monthly salary increase, as well as a higher starting salary for new hires.

There were similar strikes recently in other parts of the country. In December, the US corporation offered German workers a 100-euro pay rise and a one-time bonus of 1.000 euros to offset the impact of high inflation.

The negotiator of the German Food, Beverage and Hospitality Workers Union (NGG), Freddie Ayan then described the proposal as a "slap in the face". According to him, it is important that salaries increase according to inflation.

Negotiations are expected to continue on February 8.
