What we learned this week: The dangerous politician

We have seen all the accusations that Mickoski makes, on a flat and easy basis, at the expense of this government, from corruption, homelessness, inefficiency, to incompetence, during the rule of his party, and even in much worse forms and in larger dimensions.

This week (Thursday) we had the opportunity to follow the interview with the leader of VMRO-DPMNE Hristijan Mickoski on "Kanal 5" and to feel in which direction things will move on the domestic political scene - to further tension, nervousness and anticipation, and that without unfolding in due course. We will still "wait for Godot". It seems we will have to accept that as a "new normalcy" in our political situation, as a "permanent temporaryity", as one politician described the situation in Bosnia.

Mickoski, obviously, does not intend to give up the goal of holding early parliamentary elections, and this Government, composed of hardships, understandably, does not even dream to make it possible. But Mickoski also introduces a new moment in the equation - as he said, he intends to "mobilize the dissatisfaction of the citizens", to create a "general front", and with "protests and riots", as he confirmed to the host Goce Mihajlovski, to holds early elections. And one more thing - in parallel with the "happening of the people", the opposition intends to "bring out" scandals and affairs for the work of this government. The previous mayors in the municipalities where the opposition won the local elections will be the main target. There she has access to documents, which means the opportunity to detect scandals, as well as the opportunity to manipulate those documents, as needed. And in that way he will gradually and persistently cement the image of this government as corrupt, homeless, incompetent…

This is how he puts himself in a "win-win" situation - if he wins early elections, he will point out that he forced the government to resign; and if she does not win, she will systematically and constantly "crack" her rating with each passing day, so that she will receive the regular elections with full "account". Baшкаka, "training the people" is a good opportunity for regular gymnastics of the "party body".

The scandals that, thank God, are for every government, can be arbitrarily oversized and stuffed, and if it can not prove them in legal proceedings, it will declare the entire judiciary trapped and instrumentalized, without giving five bucks as much as such an approach entails long-term damage. And who will have time to wait for court decisions and "clarification" of the cases, when, as Mickoski himself said, the most important is the perception of the people. And for that he has the benchmark of the calls of the citizens in the morning contact shows.

In other words, the opposition intends to create mass hysteria, with general phrases and empty but sticky slogans, to organize protests and blockades, to cause traffic jams, which will exhaust the citizens and create an atmosphere of near "doom of the world". Why? Because that is how he will "quarrel" in the polls for the perceptions, and then to effect the same in the early or regular elections, whatever.

Let us not be deceived, that approach is "alpha and omega" for politicians of Mickoski's format, as it was for Gruevski. It will be difficult to convince anyone that there are some higher interests, because of which it is not good to do, that the very fabric of the state is damaged - that general distrust is created in the institutions, in the legal order, in democracy in general, that they are irritating citizenship, discord and intolerance are introduced. That all the accusations he makes, anyway and with ease, at the expense of this government, from corruption, homelessness, inefficiency, to incompetence, we have seen during the rule of his party, and even in much worse forms and with larger dimensions. He counts on the syndrome of short memory and the impulsive urge of "perception" in the telephone callers in the contact shows and for him that is enough. It is pure "Trumpism", or "Gruevism", and nothing good can be born from it.

If we add to that the "plan" of Mickoski, which became visible from his appearance on Channel 5, to "play" hard and uncompromising in relation to Bulgaria, to take the position of "patriot of steroids", it is clear that this is dangerous politician. In the true, elementary sense of the word dangerous. It is dangerous if he does not know that it is easy to play a tough negotiator, when you are not the one who should solve the problems, but someone else; and he is even more dangerous if he knows that, but he deliberately "pumps" doses of intransigence and nationalism, in order to further aggravate the already difficult situation of the negotiators. In the first case he is a naive fanatic, and in the second he is a perfidious instigator who shouts "from badja ura!" (People from Prilep will understand me).

However, when I think of his facial expression during an informal meeting with Boyko Borisov, documented on YouTube, I believe more in the first. If he ever faces the Macedonian-Bulgarian problem personally and personally, he will sing another song, but I hope that will not happen. His heroism as an oppositionist will not allow him to face reality, although he likes to be considered a realist, and I am convinced that he will literally turn a blind eye to the problem, just as his mentor Gruevski turned a blind eye to the dispute with Greece. Just as a child, faced with a situation or danger that he can not cope with, closes his eyes, hoping that the danger will disappear when he does not see it. It is natural for children, but for politicians infantilism is a dangerous phenomenon, not only for them, but for the whole society. But, well, let there be something left to learn and learn in the future.

In any case, it is not easy for SDSM. As VMRO-DPMNE "scolds" in every situation, so SDSM "hurts" with early elections and without them. (Of course, this refers to quarreling and squabbling only in a narrow party sense.) Therefore, SDSM has no choice but to think and act stately. The strategic interest of the country is to resolve the dispute with Bulgaria and to open negotiations with the EU. If he accepts elections, he will not be able to do so. And if SDSM does not do that, VMRO-DPMNE will never do it. We have the experience with Gruevski, and Mickoski is a continuation of that matrix.

On the other hand, it is clear that a solution with Bulgaria, whatever it is, will be unpopular and SDSM will have to pay the political price for it. Especially with an opposition that will try to get the most out of it, that does not hesitate to declare "traitors", to pretend that it would achieve much more or something more favorable. If it allows elections, SDSM will lose maybe less, but in vain, and if it does not allow elections, it will lose more, but in the long-term benefit of the state.

Our voters are inert, they will not realize it immediately, but they will one day. If a solution is reached quickly, if negotiations with the EU start and if there are some tangible benefits from them, that period can be significantly shortened. Maybe until the regular elections in 2024, but let SDSM not sleep on that ear. Let him think that he will "die", but at least he will die for Macedonia!
