The world should listen to the voice of China in order to find a way out of the war in Ukraine, the Spanish Prime Minister said today Pedro Sanchez, ahead of his state visit to Beijing next week.

"China is a global actor, so obviously we have to listen to its voice to see if we can end this war and that Ukraine can regain its territorial integrity," Sanchez said after the European Council meeting.

Sanchez is scheduled to visit Beijing on March 31 to speak with the Chinese president Xi Jinping.

Otherwise, the United States is against China's proposal for an immediate ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine because it will cement the position of Russia's military benefits, the White House said. However, the United States hopes for a constructive role for China in helping to end the war in Ukraine.

The ceasefire call is part of Xi Jinping's peace proposal.
