The Scottish Prime Minister has proposed a referendum on independence to be held on October 19, 2023

Scottish Prime Minister Nicholas Sturgeon has told regional lawmakers in Edinburgh that he would like a new Scottish independence referendum to be held on October 19, 2023.

Sturgeon said today he wanted a "legal, constitutional referendum" on Scottish independence and announced that a new bill would be passed in the Scottish Parliament for a consultative vote on the issue.

She clarified that the referendum should be the same as in the 2014 vote: "Should Scotland be an independent state?
