By now you're probably aware that red meat has a bad reputation for health.

"Regular consumption of red meat is associated with an increased risk of developing high cholesterol and high blood pressure, which can lead to heart disease, and also increases the risk of developing certain types of cancer," says Roxana Ehsani, dietitian, nutritionist and national media spokeswoman for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

"Some studies have even found that a high intake of red meat increases the risk of developing diabetes and may even reduce life expectancy," the portal writes. "Eat This, Not That!"

Since a lot of red meat is also processed, you run the risk of consuming a lot of salt.

"Certain types of red meat, such as sausages, hot dogs, bacon, deli meats, can also be very high in salt, which can raise blood pressure," says Ehsani.

Although it is understandable that the occasional consumption of red meat will not result in such negative consequences, nutritionists warn that certain groups of people should not eat this type of meat, but should avoid it as much as possible.

But for some people, red meat can have a more serious impact. Here are six groups of people who should not eat red meat, say nutritionists.

- people who have high cholesterol
– people with heart disease
– people with one or more risk factors for heart or circulatory system diseases
– people with a family history of certain types of cancer
– people with advanced kidney disease
– people with Alpha-gal syndrome (a type of meat allergy characterized by a delayed onset of symptoms (3-8 hours) after the ingestion of mammalian meat).
