The heads of the intelligence agencies of the United States and Great Britain with a joint appearance: The world is under a threat that has not been seen since the Cold War
"There is no question that the world order, a balanced system that has led to relative peace and stability and led to rising living standards, opportunity and prosperity, is under threat in a way not seen since the Cold War," Barnes and Moore said.
This weekend, for the first time, the heads of the intelligence agencies of the United States and Great Britain had joint appearances before the public. US CIA Director Bill Barnes and British MI6 Director Richard Moore published a joint column in "Financial Times". Then, they had a joint performance at the Financial Times - Weekend Festival in London.
The portal 360 degrees analyzes the main messages. From there they say that the main part of the performance is at the end of the column signed by the two heads of one of the most powerful intelligence agencies in the world. They order:
"It goes without saying that the world order, a balanced system that has led to relative peace and stability and led to rising living standards, opportunity and prosperity, is under threat in a way we haven't seen since the Cold War."
The CIA and MI6 are standing together in the resistance against an assertive Russia and Putin's war in Ukraine, write Barnes and Moore. Then, they add, that they predicted the aggression of Russia and that they warned the international community, so that everyone could help Ukraine.
"We have carefully declassified some of our secrets as a new and effective part of these efforts. Staying on course has never been more vital. Putin will not succeed in extinguishing the sovereignty and independence of Ukraine. Russia's actions are a flagrant violation of global and United Nations norms. We will continue to assist brave, determined Ukrainian intelligence partners. We are proud to do so and are in awe of Ukraine's élan, resilience and innovation," reads part of the column published in the Financial Times.
There is also a short message for the leadership in Beijing.
"In the 21st century, crises do not come sequentially. While significant attention and resources are deployed against Russia, we are working together in other places and spaces to counter the risk of global instability. For both the CIA and MI6, the rise of China is the main intelligence and geopolitical challenge of the 21st century, and we have reorganized our services to respond to that priority," Burns and Moore write.
The column then offers a second sentence about ISIS, reports the portal 360. The heads of the CIA and MI6 say that the fight against terrorism remains the core of the partnership between the two services.
As for the situation in the Middle East, the two say that through intelligence channels the work of de-escalation.
"Our services are working round-the-clock to reach a ceasefire and an agreement for the hostages in Gaza, which could end the suffering and alarming death toll among Palestinian civilians and bring the hostages home after 11 months of hellish captivity by Hamas . He was personally involved (hand-on role) in bringing the participants closer to the negotiations with the help of our friends from Egypt and Qatar. We continue to work on de-escalation of tensions in the region," the column reads.
