Chance for Center: Will "Treska" become the new "Holiday Inn"?

Chance for Centar called on the citizens to be vigilant because, according to them, adverse events are possible related to the construction activities on the territory of the Treska factory.

Here is their full statement:

"We have received some unofficial information that in the coming months the disputed plan for Bunjakovec will be resolved and implemented, which also covers the area of the Treska factory, in a way that will secure the interests of individuals and investors, but will not protect the public interest." In an attempt to prevent and inform the public in time, we want to point out the following points and ask a few questions for which we have not received an official answer to date:

• The results of the conceptual solutions from the competition for the Treska factory have not been publicly announced yet. Although the Municipality promised, we are waiting for an exhibition for more than 6 months to see the offered and awarded solutions. The mayor also refuses to cooperate with the Participatory Urban Planning Body, which is requesting the publication and the promised exhibition.

• Chance for Center has been requesting data on the condition and treatment of state land for several months on this move. Is it sold or not? Are they
complete plots or not according to the old plan, disrespecting the competitive solutions? Let us remind you - more than 47% of the land is state-owned and there must be no secret sale and completion of plots according to laws that do not protect the public interest or the citizens. The amendments to the Law on Urban Planning did not change the planning in the interest of the community, nor did they manage to wake up the institutions to stop the harmful plans from 2012.

• We publicly ask why after 5 years the laws and decrees for completion of plots in the ratio you have 30% you buy more 70% have not changed yet, or are
sells property in the Center in private for bargain prices. Why does the system of selling state land have no transparency for the public? Why is legalization allowed and implemented easier than dealing with illegal buildings, for which no one is responsible?

We call on all institutions, non-governmental organizations and those who need to protect the public interest and the interest of the state to follow the case around Treska so that the situation does not happen again as at Holiday Inn, Nova Makedonija and other places in the city center. We ask the municipality to answer the following 3 questions:
1. Whether and how much state land has been sold or is in the phase of sale of this move in the last year.
2. When will we finally see the solutions from the competition for Fever.
3. Does the mayor knowingly ignore them and work against the decision of the previous Council and in agreement with a few is ready to do harm to many?

In the middle of 2022, we must not afford to realize plans from 2012 by showing powerlessness. The consequences of those plans are visible and did not contribute to a better city for its inhabitants, but to depersonalization, deforestation, concreting, loss of greenery, intense traffic, heat islands, resistance to climate change. We all have an obligation not to repeat the learned mistakes. We call on the citizens to be actively involved and to watch closely how the city is changing, and thus our life and everyday life is changing. "Only active citizens can contribute to a democratic society," reads the reaction of Chance for Center.
