On the sidelines of the International Conference on Roma Women and Travelers, Minister of Labor and Social Policy Jagoda Shahpaska met with Director General of the Directorate for Democracy Snezana Samardzic Markovic.

Minister паahpaska informed that through dialogue and inclusive process Northern Macedonia managed by consensus to adopt two key laws, namely the Law on Prevention and Protection against Discrimination and the Law on Prevention and Protection from Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.
This, concluded Minister Shahpaska, is an additional guarantee that the laws will be fully implemented. She stressed that the Law on Prevention and Protection against Discrimination recognizes gender identity and sexual orientation as grounds for discrimination, which is a serious step forward in terms of protection of human rights.

The director of the Directorate for Democracy, Samardzic Markovic welcomed this success, in particular the introduction of gender identity and sexual orientation as grounds for discrimination.

Minister паahpaska informed that the legislation on protection from violence against women and domestic violence envisages a multi-sectoral approach, acting with due attention of institutions, as well as quick response of the courts in cases of violence.
Director Samardzic emphasized that Northern Macedonia, as a member of the Council of Europe is part of that family and therefore the support and joint cooperation, especially in the area of policies for vulnerable categories of citizens will not only continue, but will also intensify.

Both interlocutors assessed that the mutual cooperation can be intensified both in the process of promoting the rights of children, children victims or witnesses of violence, as well as in overcoming the problem of the homeless.
