Northern Macedonia has provided shelter for another 14 Afghan citizens
In the afternoon, 14 citizens of Afghanistan, United Nations employees and members of their families arrived at the Skopje International Airport.
As explained by the government press service, this is a pro-democracy population that is in danger from the Taliban authorities, and for whom Northern Macedonia has provided temporary residence until departure to a third country. With this, the country continues its active role in the international operation to help the citizens of Afghanistan.
- After landing, the standard procedure with security check and protection and PCR test was performed. These civilians will be temporarily housed in Skopje, and the costs are fully covered by the United Nations, is stated in the statement.
There are currently 568 citizens of Afghanistan in the country for whom the institutions are engaged with all the support and assistance. So far, 85 citizens have left Northern Macedonia and their permanent residences have been provided by France, Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Brazil and the United States.
