A serious turn before the elections in the USA! Kamala took the lead in a key Trump state
Although Donald Trump won the state by a landslide in the 2016 and 2020 elections, his opponent Kamala Harris has now taken the lead.
US Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has overtaken Republican Donald Trump in Iowa. Women voters are believed to be responsible for this turnaround in a state Trump easily won in 2016 and 2020, according to the latest Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll results released Saturday.
The poll of 808 Iowa voters, polled Oct. 28-31, showed Harris leading Trump 47 percent to 44 percent in a state that has been considered pro-Republican in recent years.
"The poll shows that women, especially those who are older or politically independent, are turning to Harris," the Register poll said.
Trump won Iowa in the last two presidential campaigns by more than nine percentage points in 2016 and eight percentage points in 2020. Trump's campaign team said the poll did not reflect the state and mood of the Iowa electorate.
They point to an Emerson College poll of similar likely voters from Nov. 1-2 that had a starkly different result, with Trump ahead of Harris by 10 points.
Trump has the support of men and independent candidates
The Emerson College survey found that Trump had a strong lead over Harris among men and independent candidates, while Harris had strong support among voters under 30.
Nationally, Harris and Trump are in a tight race for the White House, and early voting is underway. The official date of the elections is November 5.
Whoever wins Iowa will get six Electoral College votes. A total of 270 is needed to win the White House.
Both candidates focused their campaigns in their finals on key swing states like North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.
