The head coach of the Faroe Islands rejoices after the victory over Macedonia: It couldn't have been better
The Macedonian handball national team suffered a heavy defeat against the Faroe Islands in the first match of the barrage for qualifying for the World Cup. There is great optimism among the Farcans before the rematch in Skopje on Sunday, where they will start with a seven-goal advantage. Islanders coach Peter Bredsdorff-Larsen says they couldn't be happier with the situation
The chances of the Macedonian handball national team to qualify for the 2025 World Cup seem remote after the convincing defeat in the first match in the World Cup play-off, with a score of 34-27 for the islanders who were playing at home.
The Farcans are rejoicing after the victory after which they have one foot in the World Cup, and if they manage to qualify, it will be their participation in only the second major competition in their handball history, after the appearance at the European Championship 2024 last January.
The head coach of the Faroe Islands, Peter Bredsdorff-Larsen, praised his players and announced a similar game in Skopje.
- We cannot be more satisfied with the result in the first match. We were good in attack and no less in defense. We were focused the whole time, and we will be focused in Skopje on Sunday in the second leg - says the head coach of the Farcans.
Winger Lejvur Mortensen is also optimistic about the second match, on Sunday in Skopje.
- They think they have the best home ground in the world, so it will be exciting to try, and we can only grow as we go - says the confident Mortensen.
Oli Mitun, the left back of Farcani points out that Macedonia is much better at home.
- We achieved a good result against one of the bigger national teams, but they are usually much better at home in Skopje, so nothing has been decided yet - says Mitun.
The second leg will be played on Sunday at "Boris Trajkovski" in Skopje (19 p.m.).
