He died on October 20, 2013 in Belgrade Jovanka Broz, and was buried in the House of Flowers. In recent years, virtually nothing was known about the first lady of the former state, the symbol of an era who died before her.

When Tito died and her property was nationalized, Jovanka completely withdrew and spent her last years, allegedly, in poverty. He hardly ever gave interviews. She was Tito's wife from 1952 until the end of his life, in 1980, although they spent their last years together apart.

Jovanka, born in Lika, Croatia in 1924 as Budisavljevic, was politically active from a young age. At the age of 17, she joined the Union of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia, and at the age of 21, she received two Orders for Courage. She met Josip Broz Tito in 1944 during the German landing on Drvar.

The love story of this couple probably started during that period. considering that they got married in 1952. But how exactly that love started is not clear and is not known to this day. Allegedly, after the Second World War, at the age of 24, Jovanka started working in Tito's office. Then she caught the eye of the significantly older and charismatic Broz. Another version of the events is that Jovanka was hired in 1945 to control the food and health of the people who surrounded Josip, and later allegedly became his personal secretary.

Josip's great love, Davorjanka Paunović, died during that period. It is assumed that he then found comfort in the engaged and ambitious Jovanka. What is known is that in 1952 they were married in a villa in Ilok, Croatia. That Jovanka is the first lady of Yugoslavia became clear in 1953, when the British foreign minister came to visit. From a girl from Lyca, she rose to social status, influence… queen of the former state.

When they got married, Jovanka learned good behavior and manners in Rome - everything to become a worldly lady. It was no longer enough to be a young partisan. And she quickly intrigued the world with her wide smile. She wore designer clothes, looked extraordinary, and the legendary Juzi Jelinek sewed for her. She became a lady, more popular than the actresses of that time. But appetites were increasing, so Jovanka allegedly wanted political power and influence, so Tito's closest associates did not like that.

The love and relationship between Jovanka and Tito have always been shrouded in secrecy, but it is known that in the 70s they distanced themselves and since then the level of joint appearance in public has become rare. Their last joint appearance was in 1977. She was allegedly very difficult to live with. She was soon caught under suspicious circumstances, and it is speculated that Tito ordered that capture, under pressure from his associates, who manipulated him against Jovanka. In the last years of his life, Tito lived alone, and Jovanka only appeared at his funeral in 1980. Although during the last years of Tito's life they lived at a distance, Jovanka and Josip Broz never officially separated.

When Tito died, Jovanka was in a very bad position. They confiscated her property, and she didn't even have personal documents. He received them only a few years before his death. He dies hard, ugly, in solitude, from a serious illness.
