Trains collide in Bulgaria – two people killed, six injured

Two people were killed and six injured, two of whom are in critical condition, is the toll so far from the head-on collision of two freight trains near the Bulgarian capital Sofia. reported local media.

The train accident occurred around 16 p.m. in the suburb of Kremikovtsi in the Bulgarian capital. Both the dead and injured were workers of Bulgarian Railways.

Ljubomir Nikolov, head of the Sofia Department of Internal Affairs at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, told reporters that there were a total of eight people on the two trains.

A fire broke out in one of the two trains after the collision, but it was quickly extinguished. Nikolov said the trains were traveling on the same track, most likely due to a traffic management error. One train was diesel-powered and was carrying metals, while the other was electric and loaded with furniture.

A few hours after the train accident, interim Bulgarian Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev dismissed Bisher Mintsev, the deputy transport minister in charge of railways.
