The number of newly infected people in Germany is decreasing, the obligation to wear masks is gradually being abolished
The number of newly infected people with the coronavirus in Germany is declining, prompting Health Minister Jens Spann to announce the phasing out of the mask-wearing obligation.
- In case of declining incidents, we should take steps gradually: the obligation to wear masks outdoors may fall off first, German Health Minister Jens Spann told the newspapers of the Funke media group, Deutsche Welle reports.
In regions with very low incidence and high vaccination rates, the obligation could be phased out for indoor use, he said.
German Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht asked the provinces to clarify whether and where the obligation to wear masks is still appropriate. This is especially true for students, who must wear masks for hours. "It's a burden," Lambrecht told the Bild am Sonntag newspaper.
In Germany, for the first time in more than eight months, there are less than 1000 newly infected in 24 hours. The Robert Koch Institute has registered 549 new cases. The number of newly infected was last in the triple digits in September last year, reports Deutsche Welle.
