Sakelaropoulou demands an immediate and complete clearing of the wiretapping case
The Greek president, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, is demanding an immediate and complete clarification of the case of telephone monitoring, who says in a written statement that "the protection of the privacy of communication is a basic requirement of a democratic and liberal society."
Sakelaropoulou adds that the exception provided by the Constitution due to national security is related to the need to protect the country, but it is necessary that the interpretation and implementation "be in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and proportionality."
- Strict respect for the legality and transparency of state action is not only a guarantee for individual rights, but also the most crucial indicator of the quality of our democracy, says the Greek president and adds that trust in the state is based on this.
She points out that the case should be resolved with restraint and adherence to parliamentary procedures and points out that the respect and defense of democracy "goes beyond parties, personalities and positions".
