Amber Herd has filed an appeal against a ruling ordering her to pay ex-husband Johnny Depp $10 million in damages in a defamation lawsuit, the New York Post reports. Her team claims that the court made mistakes that prevented a fair trial under the First Amendment.

Attorneys for Amber filed a notice saying they "intend to appeal" Thursday in Fairfax County, Virginia. The actress will appeal the ruling of the post-trial decision and "all additional orders and decisions of the trial court," the statement said. Her lawyers have until September 4 to file a complaint in which they will present their arguments.

Amber's appeal comes after the court denied her request for a new trial on multiple grounds, including that one of the jurors had perjured herself.

In a statement Thursday, her team said it believes "the court made errors that prevented a fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment.

"That's why we file complaints. While we understand that today's complaint will set Twitter on fire, we must take steps to ensure fairness and justice,” Heard representatives said.

On the part of Depp, however, they expressed strong confidence in the verdict.

"The jury heard extensive evidence presented during the six-week trial and reached a clear and unanimous verdict that the defendant had repeatedly defamed Mr. Depp. "We are still confident in our case and that this ruling will stand," Johnny's spokesman said.

After the trial ended, Johnny returned to acting. He is set to portray King Louis XV in the French film La Favorit, which will also be filmed at the Palace of Versailles.
