"The USA is stronger and nobler because we have allies, friends and partners like North Macedonia", said the American Ambassador Angela Ageler yesterday at the celebration of 248 years of American independence at the Embassy in Skopje.

In her speech to the audience, she stated that she was honored to represent the United States in the country and spoke about the changes the world is facing, the elections that are being held in over 90 countries this year, about democracy and the need to protect it.

- In general, elections are based on different opinions, priorities and individual goals. They may be difficult, but when they are over, it is imperative that we return to what one of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln, called "the better angels of our nature." Let's unite again as a nation and work for the good of the citizens. This applies here as it will apply in the US in November. Therefore, I congratulate you and your Government and everyone who is doing this, that is, relying on the good angels, said Ageler.

Referring to democracy and its meaning, the ambassador quoted the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, Maria Ressa, who said that democracy is fragile, that we should fight for every part of it, for every law, for every protection, for every institution, for every story.

– You must know how dangerous it is to suffer even the slightest denial. Even today, her words have more meaning than ever. All around us we see a changing world. More voters than ever in history are eligible to vote in 2024 in over 90 countries and the EU, even as war and conflict affect millions around the world. Now I am reminded that the strongest democracies do not succeed alone. When we are united we are stronger. The United States is stronger and nobler because we have allies, friends and partners like North Macedonia, Ageler said in his address to those present at the ceremony.
