The United States has announced new sanctions against the Russian defense industry
The United States is imposing sanctions on Russian state-owned defense companies in order to "limit Russia's ability to replace military equipment it already lost during the brutal war against Ukraine," a senior White House official told the DPA.
Speaking on the sidelines of the G7 summit in southern Germany, an official said Washington would impose higher tariffs on more than 570 sets of Russian products worth approximately $ 2,3 billion.
"G7 leaders will harmonize and extend targeted sanctions to further restrict Russia's access to Western technology that could support the Russian arms industry," a White House spokesman said.
US President Joe Biden and his fellow G7 leaders will seek authorization to put all customs revenue on Russian goods into Ukraine's military efforts, he said.
