The US made a proposal to Lebanon for the demarcation of the maritime border with Israel
The American ambassador to Lebanon, Dorothy Shea, today presented to the Lebanese President Michel Aoun and the interim Prime Minister Najib Mikata a proposal for the demarcation of the maritime border with Israel, in the midst of negotiations on the border dispute for about 860 square kilometers in the Mediterranean.
American media reports that Lebanon and Israel have officially been at war since the creation of the Jewish state in 1948, and both countries claim about 860 square kilometers of the Mediterranean Sea.
President Aoun's office confirmed that during today's meeting at the presidential palace in Baabda, Ambassador Xi presented the proposals to US mediator Amos Hochstein.
In last week's interview with the local media, President Aoun estimated that the negotiations could soon end, with the message that Lebanon "will get the right to extract oil and gas".
