Millions of users were affected, the blockade prevented access to social media and messaging services on Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram from yesterday afternoon until before midnight. The blockage occurred while changing the configuration. The error occurred on routers that coordinate the flow of information between Facebook and the servers, according to a blog today. Because of the malfunction of both internal systems and software tools, it was difficult to quickly diagnose and resolve the issue. The complete break lasted a total of about six hours.

Facebook's explanation coincides with the assumptions of internet experts, that the mistake is in the infrastructure of the concern itself. Facebook emphasizes that it does not have any indications that due to the interruption of the services, the data of the users are endangered.

Around the world, at least one of Facebook's services is used by about 3,5 billion people. The founder and first man of the concern, Mark Zuckerberg, apologized to the users for the mistake.

There was initially speculation about possible sabotage, but Facebook cyber experts say it is unlikely.

The disruption on Facebook caused a rush to the competitor Twitter. "Hello to virtually everyone," they tweeted from there, after countless Facebook users suddenly flocked to the social network for short messages.

Shares of Facebook fell nearly five percent, but the concern is still worth about $ 920 billion. Zuckerberg's personal fortune, however, fell by more than $ 121,6 billion in just a few hours to $ XNUMX billion, making him the fifth richest man in the world, behind Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
