Russian forces withdrew from Snake Island near the Ukrainian coast in the Black Sea as a "sign of goodwill", the Ministry of Defense announced today.

The ministry said the move showed that Russia was not obstructing the United Nations' efforts to establish a humanitarian corridor for the export of agricultural products from Ukraine.

Snake Island, which Russia occupied on the first day of the invasion, gained worldwide fame when Ukrainian border guards stationed there refused a Russian warship's request to surrender.
