Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in the Sumy region of Ukraine
Russian forces attacked energy infrastructure in Ukraine's northeastern Sumy region, causing blackouts in some districts and forcing authorities to switch to backup power systems, local officials said today.
The attack caused damage in Konotop, Okhtyrka and Sumy districts, with critical infrastructure facilities using backup power systems, regional authorities reported via the Telegram app.
The water supply facilities in Sumy informed that the night attack caused a power outage, which is why they had to switch to emergency power supply.
The acting mayor of Sumy, Artem Kobzar, said that there were no victims in the city and that energy crews are working to eliminate the consequences of the attack.
Regional authorities announced that air defenses shot down 16 drones over the region.
Ukraine's air force said Russia launched 51 drones to attack the country overnight, 34 of which were shot down thanks to air defense operations in five regions.
