Russian air operations over eastern Ukraine have decreased significantly since Ukrainian air defenses recently shot down several Russian jets, authorities in Kiev said.

"The defense systems of the Western partners are effective," Ukrainian "Pravda" reported the words of Air Force spokesman Yuriy Ikhnat in Kyiv.

According to Ukrainian reports, several Russian Su-34 and Su-35 fighter jets have been shot down over eastern Ukraine in recent days.

The Russian military has not officially confirmed the loss of the planes.

Just a few days ago, Ukraine said its forces shot down a Russian A-50 reconnaissance plane, while in January it also shot down a precious and very rare aircraft used for airspace surveillance.
