The employees of the US Embassy in Moscow for more than three years should leave Russia by January 31, 2022, said today the spokeswoman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova.

Official Washington has previously ordered 27 Russian diplomats to leave the United States by January 2022.

Zakharova stressed that such a decision was not Russia's choice, as the United States "imposed a similar game" after the State Department unilaterally imposed a three-year travel ban on staff at the Russian Embassy in Washington and the Russian Consulates General in New York and Houston in 2020.

"Until July 1 next year, unless Washington relinquishes its three-year rule and makes a compromise, the staff will continue to go in a proportionate number of Russians," the State Department said in a statement. pointed out Zakharova.
