Russia's Foreign Ministry says it is expelling two diplomats from the Finnish embassy in Moscow in retaliation for Helsinki's decision to expel two of its diplomats. Reuters.

The statement also said that the Russian Foreign Ministry was protesting against what it called "Finland's confrontational course towards Russia", apparently referring to Finland's bid to join NATO.

The Finnish Parliament will vote today on the country's application for NATO membership.

The Foreign Affairs Committee unanimously supported the application, saying that Finland must be a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.

Earlier, Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said that NATO membership "will maximize the country's security".
