Russia receives series of Chekan armored vehicles
The Russian company AVD handed over to the Russian army a series of Chekan armored vehicles of different versions, Russian media reports.
The vehicles are manufactured by refurbishing Russian three-axle trucks Ural-4320, which are capable of carrying a load of over 6 tons.
The series included two types of vehicles: an armored personnel carrier version and a truck with an armored body adapted to transport infantry.
The level of ballistic protection is unknown, but it can be assumed that it is capable of protecting against light fragments.
The Chekan version of the armored personnel carrier has a squad compartment combined with the driver's cabin. The vehicle has a more sophisticated design and the bottom is in the shape of a "V" to reduce the energy of a possible explosion under the wheel.
It is armed with a closed machine gun turret and a night vision system.
The first units in the APC version were seen in use by Wagner's Russian mercenaries during the campaign in Syria and later in Libya.
With the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2022, they found themselves on the territory of Ukraine, where they were used by the same Russian mercenaries.
Later, apparently simplified versions with a van body appeared for the first time.
In combat, the vehicles demonstrated a certain level of mine protection that allowed the crew hit by anti-tank mines and explosive devices to survive.
