Russian State Nuclear Corporation "Rosatom" Today, the construction of the El-Daba nuclear power plant in Egypt began, said the executive director of the Russian corporation "Rosatom". Alexey Likhachev at the beginning of things.

"We have started the construction of a nuclear power plant in Egypt. The start of the construction of unit 1 of the El-Daba nuclear power plant means that Egypt enters the ranks of nuclear developed countries. Rosatom will build state-of-the-art VVER-1200 design blocks in the Arab Republic of Egypt. The construction of the nuclear power plant will allow Egypt to reach a new level of development of technology, industry and education, and it is the largest Russian-Egyptian cooperation since the Aswan Dam. "Having our own nuclear energy industry has been a dream for the Egyptian people for more than half a century, and it is a great honor for Rosatom to make that dream come true," Likhachev said.

El-Daba will be Egypt's first nuclear power plant and Rosatom's first major project in Africa, and will consist of four units, each with a capacity of 1200 megawatts.

It will be built in the city of the same name in the province of Matruh on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.

The two countries signed an interstate agreement to build Egypt's first nuclear power plant in Cairo in November 2015.

The total cost of construction is 30 billion dollars.
