Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the choice of Finland and Sweden to join the NATO military alliance is a mistake that will have far-reaching consequences and will lead to a radical change in the global situation, news agencies reported.

Ryabkov said that Finland and Sweden should not have illusions that Russia will simply tolerate their decision, Interfax reported.

Earlier, both President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that the move would further worsen the situation in the region.
