Reusing empty ice cream cartons can be hazardous to your health
Plastic ice cream boxes often look like practical containers that we can later use in other ways – for example, to store lunch leftovers or even to freeze food. However, it is not healthy.
Empty ice cream cartons can transfer chemicals to the food you put in them. These include chemicals such as UV stabilizers, softeners or substances found in plastic that can be transferred from plastic to food, experts explain.
Manufacturers ensure carefree use and consumption of the ice cream in the box, but when the favorite summer dessert is eaten, the box must be thrown in the trash.
The boxes are especially dangerous if they are washed in hot water or heated in a microwave oven.
They are made to hold ice cream and nothing else.
What is the best way to store food?
Use plastic containers that are only intended for food storage, as the composition of plastic is different from ice cream containers. You can also use glass, but also silicone dishes.
Silicone food storage containers are also completely safe for storing food in the freezer.
