Restrictions on water supply across Britain
The British water company "Yorkshire Water" announced the introduction of certain restrictions from August 26 due to a record low level of precipitation since atmospheric precipitation began to be measured more than 130 years ago.
"Extremely hot and dry weather has caused rivers in Yorkshire to disappear and our reservoirs to be around 20 per cent lower than usual for this time of year," the company said.
Several other water companies have already announced restrictions on water use.
The ban on using irrigation hoses and sprinklers came into force for users of the company "Southist Water", restrictions are also planned by "Thames Water", which supplies 15 million people across London.
Environment Minister George Justice has urged water companies to take precautionary measures to protect water supplies and deal with the effects of a prolonged drought, as another heat wave is predicted for the island.
