The handball national team of Macedonia for the first time in the seven participations of the European Championships, in Debrecen he lost all the matches and face the reality called generational change which in turn is not unknown to the "red-yellows" and also paves the way for the future.

The national team for the first time since 2009 and the World Cup in Croatia, where Macedonia re-entered the handball map as a regular participant in major competitions (with the exception of the European Championship 2010 and WC 2011), played without Kiril Lazarov, and the "ambassadors" who last 10 - Filip Mirkulovski, Stojance Stoilov and Nikola Mitrevski were an integral part of the national team for 12 years, while Dejan Manaskov did not play due to injury.

The other handball players in Debrecen were the ones who should be the future of Macedonia, but they will have to go the hard way, because the route drawn by the previous generation is slowly "erased".

Macedonia for the next big competition, the 2023 World Cup which will be played in Poland and Sweden, will have to play not one but two barragesand in them he will not have the favorite role as he was in the past.

In the first barrage, the handball players will have the role of favorites, but in the second, they will be in a subordinate role, ie their opponent will be a national team that will still have a selection that will finish from fourth to 15th place at the European Championship that is still being played.
The handball players in Debrecen, played three matches and suffered three defeats, from Slovenia, Montenegro and Denmark, showing two faces.

The game against Slovenia showed that there is "material", but in the duels with Montenegro and Denmark, the handball players played poorly and showed that they will need a lot of work, and a large part of that task will have to be psychological, as the coach said. Lazarov before leaving for Debrecen.

- The young people in the training process do not lag behind at all compared to the more experienced ones, but the very step on the floor where the European Championship is played immediately blocks everything with them. That is why we hired a sports psychologist who works individually with our younger players to make these things more painless - said Lazarov before leaving for Debrecen.

As usual, the coach after each major competition will make a detailed report on the game of the European Championship, in which he should turn the road for the future.

Since Macedonia is a country with a million experts, everyone has their own opinion and idea, but it is desirable to hear what Lazarov's former colleagues have to say with whom he achieved the greatest handball successes. Their word carries weight and is certainly well-intentioned - for the good of handball.

Lazarov may be the right person who should lead the national team in the new chapter, ie to make a change of generations, because he has already faced this process 23 years ago.
Namely, After Macedonia's debut appearances at the European Championships (1998 Italy) and the World Cup (1999 Egypt), a change of generations followed and that brought us a ten-year fast from participating in the big competitions..

Then Pepi Manaskov withdrew from the national team and the role of the new leader of the national team belonged to Lazarov. The national team then embarked on a new beginning which was difficult, turbulent and filled with many disappointments at the last hurdle before the European Championship or World Cup - the barrage.

It took the national team exactly ten years to win a barrage, Iceland was defeated in 2008 and Macedonia since 2009 is again on the map of regular participants in major handball competitions.

Now Lazarov should play the key role again, to try to make the change of generations more painless, but as he himself says, he is ready to listen and accept constructive criticism for the good of Macedonian handball.
