The official representative of the World Health Organization Mike Ryan said today that high levels of coronavirus transmission among unvaccinated people, as is the case in North Korea, pose a higher risk of new strains of the virus.

"It's certainly worrying that countries will not use the funds that are now available," said Mike Ryan, the WHO's director of emergency response to a question about the North Korean epidemic.

Ryan reminded that the WHO has repeatedly stated that where there is unverified transmission, there is always a greater risk of new variants.
