The President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev received a delegation of the Bulgarian community in the Presidency of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, composed of representatives of the political party Civic Democratic Union, the Cultural Center "Ivan Mihailov" from Bitola, "Tribina" from Prilep, Macedonian-Bulgarian friendship from Skopje, "Corridor 8" - Skopje, "Interaction" - Ohrid and "Unity" from Kocani.

As MIA reports from Sofia, this is the first meeting of the Bulgarian President with representatives of Bulgarians from S Macedonia.

Bulgaria stands firmly behind the Macedonian Bulgarians, Radev said, adding that he had already expressed this position before the EU during his meetings with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

According to Radev, without cooperation with the Macedonian Bulgarians, Sofia cannot adequately protect their rights.

He reminded that the Good Neighbor Agreement between Bulgaria and the Republic of Northern Macedonia states that Bulgaria has the right to defend the rights of Macedonian Bulgarians.

Radev also supported the call of some of the organizations of the Macedonian Bulgarians, addressed on October 12 to the political parties and institutions in Bulgaria.

- It should be clear that in addition to protecting your rights, we have a broader interest in the Republic of Northern Macedonia, but in any case your interest will come first. It depends a lot on your unity, Radev continued, adding that Bulgaria is in the process of formulating a new policy.

Radev assessed that Bulgarian citizens are EU citizens, so their discrimination is discrimination against Europeans. He also stressed that the common task is, as he says, to stop the de-Bulgarianization in the Republic of Northern Macedonia and to preserve the historical and cultural heritage. Violation of these rights is a reason to delay the start of negotiations between the Republic of Northern Macedonia and the EU, regardless of the price that Sofia pays. Bulgaria will unwaveringly follow this path, Radev is categorical.
