The President of Bulgaria Rumen Radev stated that Bulgaria is the main exporter of electricity in the region and that it is ready to increase its exports to the Republic of North Macedonia in accordance with the rules of the European energy market and Bulgarian legislation and the interest of Bulgarian citizens and businesses.

Radev stated that together with President Stevo Pendarovski and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, they discussed the possibilities for the EU to financially support the possibilities of Macedonia, in order to avoid a possible liquidity crisis in the winter regarding the supply of electricity in the country.

The Bulgarian president expressed hope that there will be progress in this direction, but it depends on the decision of the European institutions, as well as of Macedonia, to make the appropriate requests, for which, he says, Bulgaria is already helping. Radev said that Bulgaria has already established a joint working group with Macedonia.

The remaining political talks between the two countries, according to Radev, are taking place in a normal atmosphere of mutual respect and friendship.

- It is very important in the Republic of North Macedonia to understand that the implementation of bilateral obligations should continue as soon as possible. This is the guarantee for the acceleration of the European integration for the Republic of North Macedonia, said Radev - said the President of Bulgaria.

He reminded that the real negotiations for its membership according to the negotiation framework have not started, but will start when the country includes the Bulgarians in its Constitution.

– All issues that have been delayed for many years should be resolved. It is inevitable to talk about the common history with the Republic of North Macedonia. I expect the statesmen in our friendly country to show political wisdom and build the European future of the Republic of North Macedonia, freed from the ideologies of the past - says Radev.

During his stay in Sofia, yesterday, on the occasion of the official commissioning of the gas interconnector Greece - Bulgaria (IGB), Pendarovski had meetings with the President of the European Commission, Von der Leyen and with the Bulgarian President Radev, the main topics of which were the current energy crisis and expectations for help from the EU in dealing with it. New early parliamentary elections are being held in Bulgaria today, the fourth in the last two years.
