The creation of a Palestinian state within the borders of 1967 is a key condition for resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a message to Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, Russian media reported.

"Now, when the bloody conflict is causing much suffering to civilians in Palestine, I think it is of particular importance to reaffirm Russia's consistent position in favor of realizing the legitimate rights of your people to create their own, sovereign state within the 1967 borders with the capital in East Jerusalem. This is precisely the key condition for achieving a comprehensive, long-term and just Palestinian-Israeli solution to the situation," stated Putin's message, which was read by Deputy Head of Russian Diplomacy Mikhail Bogdanov at an event at the Palestinian Embassy in Russia.

The Russian leader emphasized that he is sure that joint efforts can ensure further development of "traditionally friendly Russian-Palestinian relations and mutually beneficial cooperation in various spheres".

In the message, Putin adds that the work in this direction corresponds to the interests of both countries and is consistent with the strengthening of regional security.
