Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered an increase in the number of Russian armed forces by 15 percent, world agencies reported.

The order is contained in a presidential decree signed by Putin and published on the Kremlin's website. It attributes the increase to "increased threats" related to the conflict in Ukraine.

The army will number 2,2 million soldiers and personnel, of which 1,32 million are military personnel, the presidential decree states.

The previous decree is dated August 2022 and it established the number of members of the armed forces at two million employees, of which 1,15 million are military personnel.
