Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed hope that the World Health Organization (WHO) will soon approve the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine, saying the move is essential to boosting global reserves.

Talking to the president of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Francesco Rocco, Putin said that WHO approval for Russia was necessary. to give them help other countries by delivering Sputnik B, among other things, free of charge.

"We plan to extend such assistance," Putin said.

WHO approval would be a sign of international confidence in the vaccine following a rigorous testing process and could pave the way for the vaccine to be included in the Kovacs program, in which the UN agency and key partners send vaccines against Covid to dozens of countries around the world, depending on the from needs.

The Russian leader also said that the WHO approval would allow Russians and others who received the Sputnik V vaccine to travel freely, numbering about 200 million worldwide.

Putin, who has repeatedly said that vaccination should remain voluntary despite the growing number of infections in Russia, stressed that the authorities were using "persuasion, not pressure" and that ce fight against "prejudices and myths that cause aversion to vaccination".
