Putin: Raisi was a "trusted partner"

Russian President Vladimir Putin said of late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi that he was a "very reliable partner".

"He was a man of his word and it was a pleasure to work with him," Putin said at a meeting with State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin, who is expected to represent Russia at Raisi's funeral in Tehran.

Putin asked Volodin to convey to Iran's leadership that "he will do everything to ensure that Russian-Iranian relations continue in the same direction."

He also said Russia was ready to help Iran investigate the deaths of Raisi and other officials in Monday's helicopter crash.

The Iranian government has not yet revealed the cause of the crash, involving the decades-old presidential helicopter.

Russia and Iran are strong allies as Raisi supplied drones carrying bombs to Russia for its military campaign in Ukraine.
