Putin has called on nearly 150.000 young Russians to serve their mandatory military service

The Russian president Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin signed a decree on Thursday calling up 147.000 young Russian nationals who are conscripts to military service as part of the regular spring conscription, Russian state media reported.
"From April 1 to July 15, 2023, the recruitment of Russian citizens between the ages of 18 and 27, who are not in the reserve and who are subject to military service, will be carried out. This applies to 147.000 people," the decree of the Russian president states.
The Russian president last signed such a provision in September, calling 120.000 citizens into regular service, state news agency TASS reported.
At the time, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the regular autumn recruitment was "not in any way connected with the special military operation", the official Russian term for the invasion of Ukraine.
All men in Russia between the ages of 18 and 27 must serve a year of military service.
