Reports suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin informally congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election are false, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
Peskov denied the allegations that appeared in the media and stressed that he was not aware of any plans by Putin to congratulate Trump.
Although Peskov previously claimed that Putin has no intention of congratulating Trump immediately after the election, Peskov added that it is not out of the question that the two leaders will be in contact before Trump's inauguration.
The statement suggests that while there are currently no confirmed plans for an official greeting, possible communication between the two leaders has not been ruled out.
