At least five people were shot dead this morning at a subway station in Brooklyn, New York, said the city fire service, reported Associated Press.

Firefighters responded to reports of smoke at the station, where they found several people shot dead, a New York City Fire Department spokesman said.

The photo from the scene shows people taking care of the bloodied passengers lying on the ground.

Additional details were not immediately available. New York police say they have responded to reports of people being injured either by gunfire or by an explosion, but it is not yet clear whether this was a terrorist act or a criminal showdown.
